Micah Receives Cub Scouts Highest Honors...and Becomes a Boy Scout!

This past Tuesday, Micah got awarded a whole bunch of cub scout awards. Well, he earned these several months ago, but then they canceled 2 pack meetings and didn't have any in December or January, so he had to wait almost 4 months to finally get his awards.

He earned a whole bunch of pins for his Webelos shoulder thing (yeah, I'm pretty smart about the official names and all), some Pinnacle of Scouting thing with an arrow notch thingy, his religious knot, his Webelos badge, and then the highest award in cub scouts---the Arrow of Light.

Here he is waiting to get awarded his religious knot. Why are my kids so short?

And, yes, they make the parents get up there and get pinned and all, so of course they get to take fun pictures of you when you are looking all dorky and your kid is trying to make you bleed. I have a snazzy necklace thingy though.

Anyway, although I really HATE scouts and we have had a really rough time with it over the past years, I'm glad Micah got to earn all these things and see him so proud and happy. Now he is officially a boy scout! Oh, more joys await, I'm sure.

Micah's 11 Year Old Pictures

Look at my cute Micah boy! Here are the shots from his 11 year old picture shoot.
Isn't he so handsome?

I look at Micah and think, gee, this is a pretty good looking kid. How's that happen?
Ha haa! No, just kidding, but am pretty impressed with his cuteness.

Troy always gets all sad every time I put up the new pictures on the wall. He always says, "Oh! He/she looks soooo old!!!!"

The photographer was all into these letters and number blocks. I don't know what the deal was. She wanted Micah to hold up the number 11 or something, and I was thinking that was pretty babyish, so anyway, while she was answering a phone call I dug through her box of blocks and threw these ones to Micah just for fun.

They humored me. :)

Yes! We Still Love Jewelia!

It's true, we haven't had a post about Jewelia in a while. But there isn't really any reason for it. I guess she had some school programs where my camera sucked, or I forgot the video camera, but really, she is still here, and of course we love her!

Jewelia is a pretty good girl mostly. She is always so happy and optimistic about the world and all her events.

She is doing so well in school. She is in 1st grade this year and she loves it! She always has such wonderful pictures and notes that she brings home. She loves to draw pictures, color and read. She is so awesome that she got an award at school for being such an awesome reader!

It is so interesting to watch Jewelia interact with her friends from school, being that most of the kids in her class are 7 and she is still only 5 years old, but she has many friends and they get along great! You wouldn't even think there was such an age gap between these kids and Jewelia.

She is a good help at home. She is such a little mommy always telling the others what they should be doing and wanting to help out. It is rather funny that she brought home a poster from school which read, "I have a dream that....." and she filled in what her dream was, except her dream was not to be a princess or a ballerina or to be rich. Her dream was that "someday my brothers, my sister and me will listen and do what my mommy says." I thought that was the best dream ever! Ha! (Of course I can only imagine what her teacher must be thinking is going on over here, like I'm Hitler or something.)

She helps me shop and get things organized and she even helps her sister get dressed.

She is still little and yet to be so much in the spotlight as her big brothers, but we love Jewelia, as she carries her own bright light on her own with her beautiful spirit.

Micah's Super Awesome Guitar Recital

Saturday Micah had his winter guitar recital. He was pretty excited about this one because this would be his first guitar recital where he would be singing with his guitar.

His recitals are usually pretty entertaining as they have a band that plays and they usually play all sorts of songs. The kids can play with a band, play lead, play backup, or play acoustic.

Here is Micah before the performance:

Micah has been working on a song by Kansas called "Dust in the Wind". He is quite good at it. We recorded him at home for an up close recording:

For his recital, he had another student play a violin solo that goes along with the song. Here is a clip of how that went:

Here he is on stage setting up:

Most family and friends were out of town or unable to come see Micah, but he was lucky to have a special guest---his Grandma Mary flew in to see his debut singing/guitar performance.

Micah did great! We think he is awesome. We can't wait for his next song!

Silly Macey

We haven't talked about cute Macey for a while on here, so just thought I'd put a little post up about her. (Well, actually, I see it's Jewelia who has been left out for a longer while, so we'll make it up to her in another post soon.)

Macey is my cute little friend I get all to myself all day while the other kids are at school. She is a good girl and helps clean up and even takes a nap with me. She likes all the attention for herself I believe.

When the kids were out of school for vacation breaks Macey was really ornery. I think it was just because she liked her alone time and the other kids were invading her space.

She loves to sing and she's always turning her words into some kind of song. However, her favorite song is still the beloved Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
