Glasses for Caleb

So, a couple weeks back Caleb had a checkup with the doctor. For some reason, when he covered his right eye, letter K's started looking like O's and T's began looking like U's. Well, let's just say he did not have a very successful eye exam with his left eye.

So, off to the eye doctor we went, and interestingly enough, the eye doctor wrote him a prescription for eyeglasses, yet suggested we need not get them yet because Caleb hadn't complained about not seeing well.

Well, goodness. This seemed odd to me. Why would he have a prescription that showed Caleb needed corrective lenses, but then have us wait until next year to get glasses? Hmmm......very strange. I suppose his vision wasn't that bad really, but I did worry about the one good eye over compensating for the other eye and bad things happening. What really could it hurt anyway?

So, we went ahead and decided to get him some. Now of course the eye place we went only lets you get the lenses free if you buy 2 pairs of glasses so it ends up being hundreds of dollars cheaper, (but I still think it is stupid being we only really needed one because Caleb only needs glasses part time right now) so we had to pick out 2.

This was not an easy process, let me tell you. Well, for some reason it did not matter what shape, color or size of glasses we put on this boy, because every pair had him looking just like that Ralphie kid on the Christmas Story movie, or the kid on Jerry Maguire, or some annoying cartoon character! I'm sorry to say this about my own kid, but really, glasses after glasses we were trying on, and it was not looking too good.

In the end, well, I guess he's just got that kind of face and round head shape. My poor little Ralphie boy! Well, I think he's kind of cute, but others have been making fun of him.

The first pair was a thicker plastic frame as you see up above. And yes, the glasses sure put extra "charm" to my poor boy! Well, I called them the "character glasses" because they gave him character which he already has plenty of!

We finally found a little wire rimmed pair that actually weren't too bad.
Troy likes this pair the best and Caleb who loved the first pair has decided he likes this one better now as well.

However, I still favor the cute little nerdy Ralphie glasses which he picked out first below. They just seem to match his personality more so.

Caleb was funny when he got them on he said, "Wow, I can see everything is so clear!"

Silly boy. He doesn't have to wear them all the time, so you may or may not see him with them on in person. Such a cute boy never the less!

Just the 2 of Us

Yep, here we are. I've had an awful cold, and Troy has been sick as well. He's just humoring me here in this picture when really he is very tired.

But yep, here we are just the 2 of us, which is not very often. Our lives are pretty busy most of the week and then by the time it is the weekend I'm at work the whole time and then we've got church stuff, but really we are pretty lucky to still like each other. I always tease that I would get bored of Troy if I had to see him too much!

Troy is doing well at work, and the kids are all doing well at school and in their extracurricular activities. We are gearing up for the next little while to prepare for a guitar recital for Micah and 2 piano competitions for Caleb. They are going to do great though! On top of that our family has been asked to be in the ward roadshow, so it will be very interesting how we will manage our time.

Don't worry though. I'm going to do a picture documentation of a week in the life of the Spjutes pretty soon. I'm sure you will be most entertained!

New Blogs!

We've had a little extra time this past long weekend, so we thought we'd make a few new blogs!

Of course you know this one, but we also maintain

Caleb keeps up with his

And now we have added
and

Check them out!

"This is Better than Disneyland!"

This week has been kind of nice. The kids had Monday and Tuesday off of school, so we decided to do something fun and go to a little indoor amusement place.

We played miniature golf and went on all sorts of little rides with the kids. They thought it was the best thing ever.

Miniature golf was not that great I thought.

Well, this was the first time any of them had been, and it was very very busy at the golf place at the time, and so there were so many people waiting in line behind us, I felt really awkward to have such a large family of small kids to make these people wait, so we just rushed the kids through as fast as we could.

I mean, Jewelia was holding her putter all backward, Micah was swinging his like a line drive over his shoulder, Caleb was playing pool with the other balls, and Macey was just trying to keep her pants from falling off.

I was rather disappointed that we couldn't take more time to actually show the kids what it was all about and show them how to hold the putter and what Par meant, but oh well, they had fun mostly. By the end we had sunk so many balls into lakes or hit them into oblivion that we were sharing 3 balls between the 6 of us.

(yucky picture of me)

The kids absolutely loved all the rides. There were only 5 of them, but they went on them over and over again. They were in heaven!

Most of the rides make me want to throw up, so luckily I had some wonderful helpers to go with Macey while the other kids went on different rides.

Micah is getting to be such a big helper. He took Macey on many rides and got her all buckled and kept an eye on her for me so I wouldn't throw up.

Yes, it's true, even the Merry Go Round makes me ill. Luckily Micah was so kind to go on with Macey or Jewelia so many times.

Even Daddy got a turn!

Caleb loved the golfing and so he went on another round with Daddy and Macey. He was always running around so quickly we didn't get hardly any pictures of him.

Sometimes they were lost in the "climby" thing with slides. But everyone had so much fun.

As we were driving away at the end of the night the kids told us that it was better than Disneyland!

Gee, that would have been a lot cheaper than Disneyland last year if we would have known that!

Ha! No, I'm sure they were just in the moment. I'm pretty sure Disneyland is a whole lot better, but I'm glad they are so easily entertained.

Happy Birthday Micah Boy!

Oh, little Micah boy, wasn't it just yesterday that you were a cute little baby with swirly hair and dark blue eyes?

Well, actually it does seem like it has been a long long time since then, but luckily you are just turning 11 today!

11!

Wow! That is getting up there in age! Next year you will be in Junior High!

We celebrated Micah's 11th birthday today and he was pretty spoiled!

Micah has usually had such small birthdays being the 1st birthday after Christmas when money is tight. Many of his past birthdays have been designated to much needed clothes, scout uniforms, scriptures, or just not anything too exciting or very fun.

Well, we tried to be extra nice to Micah this year and we actually gave him some fun toys and things he likes.

I even made him a nice fancy cake!

Oh, "What is that cake?" You ask?

Well, it is an oh so amazing guitar cake!

Yes, my cake designing skills are at it again!

We reminded Micah to make a wish before blowing out the candles and he took quite a while "contemplating" his wish.

Micah had a great birthday! He had so much family come and wish him well! Many calls and many cards, and he even got a special visit from his Uncle Paul from Ohio!

We hope it was a wonderful day!
We love you Micah!

Finally In---Caleb's 8 year old and Macey's 3 year old Pictures!

We are finally getting a little bit more organized over here after the craziness of Christmas, and we got Caleb's 8 year old and Macey's 3 year old pictures taken.

Caleb's we actually got back in early November, but I just hadn't posted them yet.

What a handsome boy he is!

He didn't want to wear his suit, but he was just so darn cute!

This is one of the few times Caleb's hair actually looks controlled. We always cut his hair short and take the pictures on the same day. Caleb has some pretty thick wild hair most of the time.

And here are Macey's:

We just got these last week. We were waiting for her to get her cast off, but I guess it didn't matter so much since the ones I picked didn't show her legs, but oh well.

Again, our little Macey wasn't a big smiler for the camera person. Stubborn little girl! Here she is looking around him at me with the "Ha ha, Mommy, I don't have to smile!" look.

We did manage one smile in the end:
